God and Penguins October 24, 2009

I’ve been thinking about penguins, climate, and temperature.  During the winter penguins always huddle together to keep warm at their breeding grounds in central Antarctica.  Why do penguins not just swim to South America instead.  It would involve a 150 mile journey but I think it would be worth it.  Also they were created in a tropical environment to begin with.  It might be that they don’t know there is another continent out there or it might just be that God doesn’t want them to.

The Dark, The Light, and The Dimmer October 17, 2009

I have been asked several times what kind of dimmer switch I am going to talk about.  Most thought that I was going to talk about a physical switch, which makes sense, but I am talking about a dimmer switch and how it applies to God.  I have found that God is all one thing or all the other except on one occasion.  This occasion is anger.  God is either one thing (on) or the other (off).  He is never in the middle except in anger.  He says to be slow to anger (the one exception) and abounding in love (on).  I think that we should be the same way.  Not only slow to anger and abounding in love, but in all areas of life.  Let me know what you think about this.

I think it’s about time for another topic of the week.  I have been SO busy that I have forgotten to post any thing.  This week’s topic is on the matter of whether God is really good.  The question is, does God do things because they are good, or do we say that they are good because God does them.  My take on this is that we call things good because God does them.  Even though in the Old Testament God told Israel to wipe out a whole an entire nation.  He did this because sin is a disease, and when Adam sinned we were contaminated.  The only way to rid ourselves of the disease is to kill the infected part (the other nation).  It’s also the same with cancer you kill the infected part.

This is my first topic of the week and I am not sure how this will go, but I would like this week’s topic to be on panhandling  and whether it is right to give them money or not.  I have recently heard four panhandlers talk of their experience.  Sometimes we just say “Get a job you lazy bum.”  Although one of them (Teddy) said something very interesting you probably have never thought about.  “In order to get a job you have to have an address ,and in order to get an address you have to have a job.”  I don’t think any of us have ever thought that way.  He also said that he usually gets money from people who have been there and know what it’s like (the really poor people). It kind of seems like we are Scrooge from Charles Dickens’ book the Christmas Carol. Please feel free to leave any questions you may have or report typos.
